Introduction:
Hi. I’m Wendy, and I would love to meet with you on Skype and be your teacher. I am a qualified teacher with both my BA and MA in Linguistics, and I hold a TESL certificate as well. I have many years of experience. For a few years, I taught English to immigrants in Canada. Then I moved to Taiwan and taught high school and university students.
I’m also a student of language myself. I love languages, and I love the challenge and joy of language learning. I understand the frustration of not always being able to express yourself in your second language, but I’ve also worked through some learning and memory strategies.
If you join me on Skype, I’ll stimulate you with interesting conversation, but I won’t be the one doing all the talking. I’ll be giving you a lot of opportunity to talk. To learn a language, you need to hear it and use it. In fact, you learn by using it! Using the language will help you sort through the grammar to get your point across, it’ll help you grow your vocabulary by refreshing the words in your mind, and it will help you develop your confidence when you realize you were understood. So I will give you lots of opportunity to talk, and as you talk, I’ll be taking note of the trouble spots. Then after every class, I’ll send you feedback – things you can work on before our next class.
My students find that I have high expectations, but I’m also patient and encouraging. If you’re interested in learning English with me, first choose the type of class you want. You’ll then see a calendar. Check it and choose the time that works best for you.
